The name "Turkmen rug" refers to the rugs made in various regions, including Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, East Turkistan, Afghanistan, and Baluchistan.Turkmen rugs have, among others, Bashir, Salor, Tekke, and Tjaudor Yomut rugs, which are all examples of rugs that were called, until a few decades ago, Bukhara rugs.What distinguishes the Turkmen rugs is that, among other things, their warp is almost always made of wool, that their motifs of the "göl" type are repetitive, and that they often have wide borders on the widths which are not find on the lengths.
