This award - Auschwitz cross - has been established by the Act of 14 March as a tribute to the people imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps, for participating in the fight for the liberation of Poland from the German occupation, for patriotic, revolutionary and progressive activities, because of racial or national affiliation and for other political reasons, in tribute to their martyrdom and courage. The name of the award comes from the Auschwitz concentration camp (which in the period of PRL under the name "Oswiecim" was a symbol of the martyrdom of the Polish population in the concentration camps) The Badge of an Auschwitz cross is a silver plated and oxidized cross with dimensions mm. On the obverse of the cross, in the middle is a red triangle theme with the letter P (such patch was used in German concentration camps for Poles) against the background of spiny wires and two columns. On the horizontal arms there is an inscription: . It is signed on the reverse side: PRL / WIEZNIOM / HITLEROWSKICH / OBOZÓW KONCENTRACYJNYCH. (PRL /TO PRISONERS OF / NAZI / CONCENTRATION CAMPS). After the inscription on the back side “PRL” was changed on “RP”.The ribbon from the cross has a width of 40 mm.
