Labrador Rocks! One of the Coolest Civilizations in North
A collection of 506 colour photographs including useful tourist information about the Labrador communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada on the eastern edge of the great North American continent. The book's main purpose is to offer support for sustainable travel and tourism developments in Newfoundland and Labrador that help protect the land and its people for future generations. The 18 year old Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) teachers and their friends/colleagues who worked in Labrador from have been included to demonstrate the value of volunteering in sustainable development. We taught in the small schools dotted along the coastline and contributed to the life of their communities. [Fox Harbour (St. Lewis) and Mud Lake is shown in detail.] Coming mainly from the United Kingdom in the s - a decade of counter-culture, challenging social norms, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, hippies, hope and rapid technological change - who could ever forget what was achieved by the Moon Landing on 20 July ? On a relatively much smaller scale but nevertheless in a bold spirit of adventure, challenge and self-expression so we came to work and share our lives with the Labradorians. Indeed, anything seemed possible! I dedicate this book to Billy L R Gauthier, Delilah Miriam Saunders, Jerry Kohlmeister, Jeremias David Zack the Hunger Strikers and their Supporters protesting against NALCOR Energy's (at time of writing) non-sustainable economic development at Muskrat Falls.
