Although in black and white, the quality of the plates is astonishing. The work is hardbound with red cloth, gilt tile on the back and front cover. The overall condition is good with some defects however: binding is slightly rubbed, some little stains and dust marks on covers, some foxing due to paper protecting the plates, other minor defects.John Singer Sargent was an American artist, considered the "leading portrait painter of his generation" for his evocations of Edwardian era luxury.
