It is a bit warn - has two small holes at the front - if I'm honest I'm not sure how they got there! A VERY rare find this one. I haven't seen another walnut finish on an ash body version of the SB-, and the look is stunning. The serial number on this one is , which dates it as one of the VERY VERY early ones in – so this bass is 37 years old! It was crafted in Japan at the legendary Matsumoko facility. Build quality, tone and playability are exceptional. The headstock has the “bat ears” design that was used on these very early ones. The bass definitely has the vintage SB look with that distinct body, inlays, and headstock complete with the classic Aria Pro II logo and paragraph worth of copyright info. It has a parallel neck, so tight spacing, lending itself to fast playing, with brass nut, brass bridge. It is not completely original - the original pickup being swapped for a Kent Armstrong version by the previous owner, but I have the original pickup, which will be supplied with the bass, in case the next owner wishes to reinstall. As seen in the photos, it’s in very clean condition. It has of course been used throughout its life, so has a few minor marks that I’ve tried to photograph. Fret wear is minimal. Here is a great hot rod deluxe I picked up recently in Cornwall. The amp is in great condition and is a limited edition hot rod, this colour seems to be pretty rare. The amp has been modded to run at 25 watts, this allows the tube to work s little harder and sounds sweeter. This mid was done by Russ fletcher and is completely reversible. The amp comes with the foot switch that allows you to change channels. Below is some info on the mod that was done The Mod from Russ's worksheet: Removed rear cover for inspection/works. Modified bias system and made switchable for 6L6 and 6V6. Fitted JJ 6V6S otput tubes and rebiased for 45mA total. Performance tests OK - amp delivering 25W. Performed audio checks, OK. Reassembled. Run and soak tests OK. PAT safety test OK. NOTE:- If the existing 6L6 tubes renewed, the 6V6 bias must also be recalibrated along with the 6L6 bias. Use only JJ Electronic 6V6S when replacing 6V6.
