The artists mark is that of Georgie Smith who’s work is very rare to find. Orinigal Brass Rubbings taken in the early 's from a 14th century church in Buckinghamshire

Each brass rubbing is unique and was taken from the original brass by hand using gold wax crayons on black paper. They were both taken between late and the end of February . Since the mid-'s, churches, cathedrals and abbeys closed their doors to amateur brass rubbers. The brass rubbings were taken from St Leonard church in Chesham Bois in Buckinghamshire. Original parts of St. Leonard church, the nave and chancel date from the 14th century and then in the church was restored and the north aisle added with the tower being built three years later. Further additions were made at a later date. A quote from St. Leonard church web site - 'In the chancel are three brasses. One has figures of Elizabeth, the wife of Robert Cheyne, who died in , in gabled head-dress and Robert Cheyne, who died in in armour of about the date of his wife's death'. Pair of Bronze Antique Planter/Jardiniere

Inherited last year. So very little knowledge! Due to it's age it will have various lumps and bumps. One in fair condition with small dint and small split. The other has no bottom in it. The measurements are approx:- inches overall width, Rim measurement inches. Height inches. On testing the metal shows the colour of Bronze. Definitely not an individual colour of either copper or brass. They both weigh very heavy, the one with no bottom weighs 5 KG and the one complete in shape should weigh a bit more. It should be quite easy to make a circle of ply and cut in half to insert if necessary to create a base for the bottomless pot,or a plastic water plant tray might fit. Using my experience of garden/d.i.y, a good strong heavy duty plastic 10 kg bag used for sand/ballast would be easy to fit in the bottom and then fill with soil or compost would also work. My D.I.Y experience is 57 years and gardening experience is 68 years. Read more
