Antique Meshkin, Ardabil Province, North West Iran.

This is a Meshkin with strong influence from the neighbouring Caucasus. These runners usually have a centre field with a light basic colour, the flowers also often occur. Photo 10 is an example of another Meshkin with a light base. The edges are decorated with the so-called crab ornament. So called because the shapes resemble crabs.Kurbach, according to Kerimov, a leading expert from Azerbaijan. This means frog and that is an animal which is honoured in the totem of the Talish. The Talish people live in this province and on the coast, in the neighbouring Azerbaijan. The rug feels smooth and soft to the touch. The warp threads are of thick, dark brown red wool. Runner, Meshkin from the Ardebil area, northwestern Iran,

Authentic runner, over 70 years old. The wool was dyed using plant-based, natural dyes. The ends features fairy horizontal, red ornaments, which have a protective and sacred function in Zoroastrianism. It is common to find expressions of the much older Zoroastrianism, fairly hidden, in strongly geometric interpretations, in thisIslamic region. Handmade, the runner was knotted on a fairy primitive, horizontal loom, which had no correction options.This is why it was possible for tension to build up in the weft threads, which led to a somewhat crooked shape, not perfectly straight like a factory-made carpet, a beautiful characteristic feature.
