Antique Japanese Meiji Hand Painted Kyoto Satsuma Tea Set

Beautiful antique Japanese Meiji Period (c. or earlier) Satsuma tea set from the Kyoto factory. Hand painted views of Geisha girls and other people in a winter landscape. Decorated in tan, cream, lilac, black, grey and white with gold gilding. Marks on underside include the Shimazu family crest. Set comprised of: tea pot with dragon spout, milk jug and sugar vessel (all three with lids topped by ball finials), plus six cups and six saucers. Has been stored for many years in a cabinet so overall in very good condition with no damage to the pottery or enamel or gilding - except for a small chip on the top of the dragon's mouth on the tea pot spout. This chip could easily be restored. However, from most angles the chip is not visible - so it should not be a problem if being used for display purposes only. Selling as now need the space. RARE Large Antique 19thC ALETOSCOPIO Slide Projector Viewer

It is going to be difficult to describe every part of this large, extremely rare, mid-19th century Altoscopio Slide Projector Viewer, but the easy part will be describing the condition. You will see in all out close-up photographs that this large, dovetailed, solid Walnut Projector is in amazing original condition and it has never been restored. This is a very large viewer and you will see rulers in several photographs so you can get an idea of the scale. The cowling around the lens measures 15” wide by 12 ¾” tall and the glass lens measures 4 ½” by 6”. Overall this large impressive Altoscopio measures 35” long by 22 ¾” tall by 16 ½” wide. The turned leg base measures 16” by 22 ½”. It has a faux grained paint over the walnut to make it look like rosewood. Every door, mirror, glass, knob and bass hardware is original and working. Toward the front you can see a large thin round section with an oval porcelain label that reads, “Aletoscopio di Venezia, C. Naya.” This large round section corresponds in size to a large round iron ring near the back. If you look closely at the flat iron ring you will see that it is made to look like a snake.

This antique Japanese sake jug is from the mid-Meiji period (c. )It measures 15 inch (38 cm) tall. These jugs were rapidly hand-thrown; there are "scars" as a result of the jugs being packed closely together in the kiln and glaze "pops" from impurities in the clay. It was one of the first truly recyclable containers as it could be brought back to the sake company after it was emptied for a refill.
