Antique Japanese Meiji Period Kyoto Hand Painted Shimazu

Antique Japanese Meiji Period Kyoto Hand Painted Shimazu

Beautiful antique Japanese Meiji Period (c. or earlier) Satsuma tea set from the Kyoto factory. Hand painted views of Geisha girls and other people in a winter landscape. Decorated in tan, cream, lilac, black, grey and white with gold gilding. Marks on underside include the Shimazu family crest. Set comprised of: tea pot with dragon spout, milk jug and sugar vessel (all three with lids topped by ball finials), plus six cups and six saucers. Has been stored for many years in a cabinet so overall very good condition with no damage to the pottery or enamel or gilding - except for a small chip on the top of the dragon's mouth on the tea pot spout. This chip could easily be restored. However, from most angles the chip is not visible - so it should not be a problem if being used for display purposes only. Selling as now need the space. From a pet and smoke free home. Buyer to collect, and ideally cash on collection. No returns.

~ Late 16th / Early 17th Century Cabasett Helmet ~ The cabasett is a Italian variant of a morion, a type of open helmet used from the middle of the 16th century till the early 17th century. The steel helmet, of typical tall morion shape, is formed from one piece of metal consisting of a high crown with ridge and a 'pear stalk' terminal to the top; the stalk-like projection resembles a pear, which is how it gained its name. The rim is set with rivets backed by brass florets. There is a worn punched armourers mark of a soldiers bust in profile to one side. A number of rivets have been attached around the roped brim. The helmet is pierced twice so it can be carried on twine. ~ Dimensions ~ The helmet has a height of (26 cm), a width 25.5, a depth of 11 inches (28 cm) & a inner circumference of 22 inches (55.9 cm). The set weighs 2.28 Kg. ~ Condition ~ There is some old repair work along the brim. The piece remains in otherwise good order, free from any significant dents.
