Antique, classic medallion Ushak from West Anatolia,

This is a classic Ushak, Oushak, like they were made back in the 17th century. Back then these carpets were often sold to England, which was becoming more and more prosperous at that time. They ended up in large mansions and castles. A similar Ushak, two centuries older than this one, can be found in Gawthorpe Hall, Lancashire, England. Inv. No. National Trust Collection Shows one like this. I have a photo of this which can be sent on request. This carpet is not that old, it's two centuries younger, late 19th/early 20th century. Nevertheless, it is still about 150 years old, which shows in this carpet. For enthusiasts, this just adds to its charm.And just very suited for use. The carpet is in good condition, a few loose threads in a corner. This can be restored, or you can choose to leave it this way. They became standard status symbols in these interiors. In the 19th century, they were back in demand due to nostalgie. In the large family of kilims from southeast Anatolia, a dominant space is occupied by a group of pieces known under the name of Reyhanli. This refers to the kilims coming from the village of Reyhanli, near Antakya, the very old Antioch, a few miles from the current Syrian border; This is why many can be found in the area around Aleppo. This type of kilim enjoys an even greater reputation among collectors and sellers, because of its delicacy and the precision of execution. No Reyhanli kilim dates from before the mid 19th century. These pieces have a strictly symmetrical look and a design with great clarity. These characteristics are explained by the fact that they were woven specially for domestic use in urban houses belonging to the wealthy. They were used as curtains and doors, their decoration often being very close to that of wood doors carved in the Middle East. The Reyanli kilims are narrow, long, and woven in two halves.Its attractive set of designs connect this very colourful kilim to almost all of the types of known Turkish kilims of central Anatolia.This kilim has some traces of wear.
