Dragon Carved Chinese Cabiniet/ Watnot Very Rare
Very Rare Dragon Carved Chinese Cabiniet/ Watnot Circa , Chinese carved wood open cabinet/whatnot with enclosed cupboards above and below. The cabinet has an unusual feature of a three quarter wrap around gallery on the top which encloses the front and sides, in the form of 2 carved Dragons. The carved dragon decoration also frames the front of the cabinet with the heads featured at the very top centre gallery piece. Beneath this is a small cornice with carved decoration. On both sides are large open fretwork panels, Rococo in style and varying in and pattern. There is an unusual formation of 12 shelves at different heights, all with three quarter wrap around galleries with floral decoration and the edging is again the form of flowers. Near the top on the right hand side and also at the bottom on the left hand side is a cupboard door with several beadings all in the form of flowers, a carved panel on the door. There is a lock and key for the lower cupboard and a little wooden handle for the upper cupboard. At the bottom and on the opposite side of the cupboard there are 2 small drawers with little wooden handles and a foliate carving on the front. The bottom has a wonderful carved apron with open fretwork, and the whole piece stands on classic Chinese ball and claw feet. Wonderful original patination, excellent condition.
