If you can remember when you could get books of postage stamps from a machine set into the post office wall then you will remember these. It is the solid brass surround from such a machine with the words "postage" and "stamps" in relief top and bottom. I realise the photo makes it look like a letter box but that's because it is on its side rather than its normal position of vertical. Ironically post and packaging is extra! This is the solid brass surround from an old postage stamp machine. Unfortunately the photo makes it look like a letterbox but you have to visualize it in the upright position which is how it would have been fitted. It is beautifully cast in solid brass with the word "Postage" at the top and "Stamps" at the bottom. If any of you are old enough to remember, the stamp machine itself would have taken up the centre of the space and be mounted vertically, usually in a wall or similar. Apart from when they were in use many years ago, I have never seen anything like it. A great collectors/talking point for the keen philatelist! Post and packing extra.
