LARGE ANTIQUE BARREL TOP STEAMER TRUNK / CHEST AS FAR AS I CAN TELL THIS TRUNK HAS NOT BEEN RENOVATED IN ANY WAY. DIMENSIONS...LENGTH 36" x WIDTH 21" x HEIGHT 30" THE TRUNK IS WOOD COVERED IN THIN BEATEN METAL. IT ALMOST CERTAINLY HAD A TOP TRAY AT SOME TIME IT ALSO SEEMS TO HAVE HAD AN ENCLOSED COMPARTMENT IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRUNK LID THOUGH THE DOOR OF THIS IS NOW MISSING. THERE IS NO KEY FOR THE LOCK AND THE CARRYING STRAPS HAVE LONG SINCE DISINTEGRATED THERE IS A SMALL CASTER ON EACH CORNER OF THE BASE. This is in completely original condition so has some dents and marks that all add to its character, full of life and history. Writing reads: H.F Tunbridge, c/o Miss D.Mason,501 New South Head RD,Double bay, Sydney,Australia. This could be used for storage (all catches and handles work),perhaps a blanket box at the foot of a bed. At the moment I have it stood on end and am using it as a lamp stand, endless possibilities. Antique old brass bound sea chest box trunk with false base compartment.

Please study all photographs carefully as these also form part of the description. Beautiful Victorian Pine Chest / Trunk with brass drop handles. Brass lock escutcheon, and original solid brass quality drop handles. It has had some renovation (mainly a small wood insert in one edge) in the past, as is to be expected because of its age, but it is in a nice polished condition.  It is brass bound, and is made of Brazilian mahogany - very thick and heavy.    It has a false panel in the internal base for smuggling, when it was originally a sea chest, I believe.   I have owned it for 50 years, but I no longer have the room for it.   There is no woodworm - its too hard for the little blighters! A perfect Coffee Table ? Length 77cm Width 45cm Height 47cm It provides an ideal storage solution for papers / magazines or would look fabulous as a lamp or coffee table. A nice piece of furniture to enhance any home. As this is an old chest, the usual marks, and knocks are present commensurate with age and use.
