Above his head, the man holds a shell (which is damaged).The man has a scourge stick and a wreath of thorns. Presumably the figure Peter or Pedro Claver (, VerdĂș, Catalonia – , Cartagena, Colombia). Wikipedia: Pedro Claver was a Spanish Jesuit, missionary and priest. He is the patron saint of Colombia. During his theology studies, Petrus was sent to the West Indies (Caribbean). He then went to Colombia, first to the town of Santa FĂ© (currently: Bogota), then to Cartagena. There he was ordained a priest in . Cartagena was the main transfer port for the trade in African slaves. Petrus worked there for 38 years with great dedication for the slaves. He taught them about faith, baptised them and offered them medical care. Because of his special care for the sick, poor, outcasts, dying and prisoners, he earned the nickname Apostle of Cartagena.Natural cracks in the wood due to old age, there are a lot of pictures that show the condition of the sculpture.
