The most ancient Turkish rugs date back to the 13th century, and can be traced to the city of Konya, which was the capital of knotting for Turkish carpets for quite some time. Carpets made between 16th and 18th century are so prized they are on par with Persian ones. Turkish carpets were strongly influenced by the Greeks, who dominated carpet production in ancient times. These carpets are rougher, made of wool, cotton and silk, and although they have the same Turkish knot, they are called Ghiordes or Turkbaff. The more common styles were for praying corners with geometrical figures.
