Chirimen-gami, loosely translated as crepe paper in English, is created by performing a specific high-pressure post-treatment on a Japanese woodblock print. This treatment resulted in the surface of the paper having a wrinkly texture (see photo 23), and the surface of a print could be reduced up to 30%. Chirimen-gami had the advantage of being a bit sturdier than untreated paper, which is why it was often used in prints meant as children's toys or children's books. This print was also very probably meant as children's toy/children's picture book.
