Tribal Turtle Petroglyph Pendant -Handmade, Mimbres,
Ethnic Tribal Turtle Petroglyph Pendant - White Turquoise Clay TurtleNecklace The Mimbres culture consisted of several hundred small villages in southern New Mexico, each with less than 200 inhabitants, and existing between approximately A.D. 100 and A.D. . Their valley supported a rich diversity of wildlife, and the people lead a peaceful existence, relying on gathering, hunting, and some limited farming. Nobody knows exactly why the Mimbres disappeared but their rich and unique motifs are alive and well. The Mimbres are best known for their wonderful motif designs of geometric, stylized images of desert animals and shaman that adorned their pottery and a few rare petroglyphs and have become very popular with modern-day artists. This handmade Mimbres Turtle design pendant was inspired by turtle and tortoise designs found on ancient pottery left behind by these mysterious people. It was crafted with white polymer clay and hand-blended pigments and is strung with an adjustable 27 inch black-colored natural waxed cord. It is also embellished with handmade Indian-style beads of Navajo white, turquoise and charcoal colors. Size is approx. 1.25ā wide -1.75ā tall. Each piece is individually made and no two are ever exactly the same. I strive for consistency on each piece but slight variations in size, shape, and color are inevitable but not by much.
