AUTHENTIC NOMADIC BALUCH/ERSARI HATCHLU 115x190cm circa
Click here to view this lot This is an authentic Beluch/Ersari Hatchlu (tent door rug) featuring a multiple mihrab design. This unique rug consists of a very unusual pattern consisting of 6 Melas-like mihrabs or perhaps domed yurts with Ersari’s trade mark, the ram’s horns.Typically, Ersaris display 4 such motifs (mihrab/yurt) representing the four gates to paradise; or occasionally two on smaller prayer rugs. This Hatchlu rug was designed likely for a larger abode and therefore it might have required more yurts to fill the large rich maroon field. As such, itresembles an image of a nomadic village. This interesting anthropological artifact was used in harsh weather conditions and withered many an arduous journey; while lustrous and still quite beautiful, it shows some signs of wear ‘n tear – missing pile, etc. It was saved from utter neglect and professionally cleaned.
