Classic Thames Estuary One Design
Designed by my Boss Morgan Giles in for the exposed waters of the Thames Estuary. Early 70s wood became so expensive that the class was continued in GRP to the same design. Being beaten by National 18s the sail area was increased to 210 sq ft making this boat very fast rather like a formula one racing car and very exciting. Although a crew of three is ideal for racing the boat can carry a family of six for cruising. They carry a Portsmouth Yardstick of 95 for racing. There are three mainsails all in very good condition and two jibs almost new. One mainsail has been reduced in size for cruising with another smaller jib but still provides an exciting sail. A lighter and smaller mast has recently been purchased for ease of trailing the boat to "Dinghy Cruising Association Rallies" and for single handed sailing. The trailer has been remodeled to fit the boat and at present has small wheels ideal for launching but will need proper road wheels for towing on the road. There are two rudders one lifting and one fixed, oars, buoyancy bags, boom rest, two whale bilge pumps and cockpit cover. There is much on the Net about this class try (Morgan Giles Estuary One Design) or (Essex One Design) or (Thames Estuary One Design) The boat is at Saltash Cornwall. Read more
