These are a gorgeous pair of French bronze stags which are signed by Moigniez on the base (please see close up photo). The pair have been cast from the finest dark brown bronze which has a lovely nutty brown patina. They would make for a great decorative item for your home and are offered in very good condition. Being bronze this will last forever without rusting and hence is a great investment as it will always appreciate in value. Aside from being aesthetically pleasing and nice to look at they can also become heirlooms. Bronze is any of several alloys consisting mainly of copper and tin. These are beautiful and would grace any home as they are quite a head turner. They have been in the family a while but they are not to my taste so selling on to someone who would be more appreciative of their beauty. Beautiful classic bust of a young man. The sculpture is signed with the name Verrochio. Also marked with “Compagnie (Cie) des Bronzes, Bruxelles”.In the first quarter of the 20th century, the company from Brussels made bronze decorations inspired by Italian masters and others from the 15th and 16th centuries; nearly an imitation, but with a contemporary allure. These pieces were very wanted at that time.This sculpture most likely concerns a free interpretation after the famous Italian artist Andrea del Verrocchio (Florence - Venice ). “Verrocchio’s reputation was great in the second half of the 15th century.
