[Les Vies des Saints]. French manuscript album with engravings. [France or Belgium?, 18th century]. 4to. [18.5 x 16 cm]. 133 pp + (3) pp of index. Lacking pp . With 24 mounted engravings by various artists including Jean Messager, Cornelis Van Merlen, Andre Basset, Cornelis Galle, and Michel van Lochem. Bound in 18th century patterned boards with thin velum spine and four twine ties. Lower section of spine very chipped but holding. One engraving lost or removed (from p. 10). Generally good. Charming vernacular album in French, recounting the lives of various saints including Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Siena, St. Apollonia, Elizabeth of Hungary, Peter of Alcantara, John of God, Charles Borromeo, Vincent de Beauvais, etc. etc. The 2 largest engravings (Blessed John of God and St. Jerome) are very fine, and are signed by Michel van Lochem. They appeared in the book by Louis Beurier, Sommaire des Vies des Fondateurs et Reformateurs des Ordres Religieux (Paris, ). But many of these plates many be 18th century re-strikes of the originals? Country Life Illustrated, volume 1, number .

The first ever edition of Country life Illustrated, later to become Country Life, it also includes Racing Life inside. Full of country tales, racing news and many stories concerning that era, plus it's full of wonderful adverts, this is a piece of Victorian history. In excellent condition, no tears or marks. One was recently sold at Bonham auction house for £62 If posted, it will be rolled, so will need to be flattened for a while, free post and packing.

Russian icon from the 18th century, tempera on wood. Icon of Christ Pantocrator. Nice representation of Christ Pantocrator, master and judge (“panto” means able of doing everything and “kratos”, strong and powerful), standing with great dignity, penetrating with his gaze the heart of whoever stands in front of him and revealing the truth written in the book that only he can open. It may seem like a terrible image, but his kind and friendly gesture of the hand invites us to get closer and listen. Painted with an open book with a quote from the Gospel. Christ is depicted wearing a red chiton (tunic-shaped robe) and a light blue himation (mantle). 18th Century Naval Cannon in Coventry

For sale, a stunning 3pdr Cast iron Naval Cannon on a contemporary Oak carriage. The barrel was sourced from Chatham Docks, having been backfilled with steelused as a bollard for many years. The front of the barrel has been bored back out to a 13" depth, and hasit's original bore size of just under 3" at the muzzle. The trunnions are a modern replacement, and the carriage has an engraved plaque at the front, with the letters stamped using original stamps from the Woolich aresnal. An amazing piece that's simply oozing with history. Quite the conversation starter for the lounge! £ or best offer. Militaria swaps/PX's welcome.

18th Century Hunting hanger Sword in Elgin

Very nice example of an early circa European Hunting sword/sabre possibly German. Some age marks to bronze cross guard and some light rust marks on the blade. It has not been cleaned at all but simply given a light coat of oil on the blade. If you require more detailed pictures please just ask.
