Click here to view this lot This Medal was instituted on and was awarded to Belgian and Allied soldiers that fought on the river the IJser between 17 and 31 October and were able to stop the German advance. The medal is made of bronze with a beautiful green patina all over the medal. On top of the medal the word "IJser" is enamelled in a green field, on the reverse with the monogram "A", representing King Albert. On the front of the medal we see a man with a lance, who symbolises the Belgian soldier who brought the German army to a standstill. The reverse shows the battlefield with a wounded (Belgian) lion and the word IJser again The Ribbon is red with black borders, which symbolises blood and death, the battle of the Yser was a bloody battle in which Belgian soldiers died which amounted to 1/3 of the total Belgian army.Excellent collect worthy condition,These medals are getting hard to obtain. The eyelet of the ring is half open. I hadnât noticed this until taking the pictures.
