Orthoceras fossil sphere 10cm diameter with stand
Orthoceras was an ancient mollusk that lived more than 400 million years ago. The name means straight horn, referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. Frequently found as flat carvings or statuettes a ong>sphereong> of orthoceras is harder to find. This highly polished ong>sphereong> weighs in at 1.5kg with a diameter of 4" (10 cms), a collector's item. The large tripod base is ideal for the size of the ong>sphereong>, displaying it to full extent.
