Moorcroft Carousel: Centenary piece Jasmine Vase. Shape no 80/9, number 488 by Rachel Bishop.
Moorcroft Carousel: A Moorcroft 'Carousel' Centenary piece vase, designed by Rachel Bishop for the Moorcroft Centenary. Jasmine Vase. Shape no 80/9, numbered edition 488. Designed by Moorcroft’s senior designer Rachel Bishop, the central feature of the Centenary Carousel was the 14” Charger carrying a mix of fruit and flowers, all of which had been used by Moorcroft designers at one time or another during the preceding ninety-nine years. Spinning away from the Charger were four more Rachel Bishop designed vases all using a combination of woodsmoke and jade as ground colours and each developed around a section of the main Charger. The 80/9 was developed around one section of the charger which features a mix of gentle jasmine flowers, leaves and tendrils. A subtle use of yellow and green created a stylised design where leaves created the main structure, with the flowers only a secondary feature. The design flows beautifully onto the vase and the use of blue tube lining to create tendrils is particularly effective achieving a striking impact in the process. The Carousel had numbered editions with each piece in the Carousel range given a unique number. This wonderful piece of Moorcroft, launched to celebrate the Moorcroft centenary in features a rich and intricate design of flowers, leaves and tendrils reflecting the Jasmine images used on the main Charger. • The 80/9 vase is 9 inches tall. • This piece is number 488 from the centenary year. • It has the Centenary Mark “H &C” for Roman hundred (some of the later numbers were made after the centenary year in and bear the “iron” mark) • It has the factory impressed marks • Copyright 96 mark. • It has the painted monogram of William Moorcroft • Paintress mark of Emma Bossoms. • Tube-liner mark of Caroline Hulme • John Moorcroft signature dated in gold. The prestigious Centenary Year included a number of special occasions John Moorcroft attended during which he signed his name “on glaze” and dated the piece for the purchaser. • Original certificate included • Original box. This piece is in perfect condition with no damage or restoration. It is guaranteed first quality with no silver line or red dot. I have owned since new, displayed very occasionally and has been mostly stored in its original box with slip cover. The addition of John Moorcrofts signature, Emma Bossoms as the paintress and correct year make this an exceptionally collectable example. I have all of the Carousel editions for sale. The rich mix of colours used on all 5 pieces are very much in the Rachel Bishop idiom. The designs are sharp and clear and very special indeed. The 4 other Carousel editions are available for sale separately. I will sell individually or as the complete Carousel. All perfect as above. See adds. Probably the best available. I have a very good knowledge of Moorcroft and will be happy to answer any questions or queries you may have. 80/9 Vase Price £250. Plus postage and packing. Ad ID: Delivery Service Consumer Credit
