It is a 6.5mp camera - a little small by todays standards. It can shoot RAW files which is best or you can shoot Jpeg. It has most of the functions that the new Nikon has except that it is a bit slower writing to the memory card. It would be a great camera for a younger person wanting an entry level camera for practice. The only thing you would need to add to the kit would be a zoom lens and a flash memory card.
