Burley cub 1 or 2 seater trailer with hard base
Burley cub trailer which has carried our twins perfectly for two years but they have begun to become too heavy for me to easily pull at 5 years old. Yes, you can buy other makes of trailer for cheaper but these are around £ new for a reason - they are the best. These are the ones that rental companies supply as they are durable and extremely safe to put your children in. Namely the solid base, suspension, functionality of the trailer and the vastly superior hitch are what you're paying for. We loved the fact that the solid base meant that they were held in safely and if I happened to ride off rode a little, no sticks could rip through the base and stab them! The hitch that connects to the adult bike is the bees knees as it is so quick to attach and release but incredibly secure and there is a fabric strap as a secondary hitch should there ever be a malfunction. The harnesses are very good and kept our children secure and the cover allowed them to have a great view of the world as we travelled around the countryside. There is a kit available to transfer the trailer to a stroller and that's why there's a viewing panel at the top too. Recently we have changed one of the inner tubes and removed the axle to clean out the suspension and bearings so it runs as smooth as you like. There is a slight hole at the back of the cover which is shown on a photo but this only leads into the "boot space" at the back which carried picnics, blankets, rucksacks, wipes etc and is very generous in size. The only other problem is that one of the zips on the cover doesn't work anymore but could be fixed by a seamstress or a new cover could be bought. Personally this was never an issue as the children were quite warm with the rain cover zipped down plus I never wanted to bike in the rain anyway. Also, the children always asked to have the rain cover velcro'd up as they preferred just having the insect mesh instead. Overall the trailer is amazing, it folds easily for storage and has allowed us to share many happy memories as a biking family. I even had a weeride seat on my cross bar and transported all 3 of ours for a while, the trailer is that lightweight yet sturdy I felt comfortable enough to ride with all of that weight.
