Beatiful antique late 19th Century High Settee. In good condition on wheeled supports. Fabric still in excellent condition with only a slight mark on back right corner (invisible when against a wall). Still very solid and no rocking or loose fittings, a really beatiful and unusual piece. Height = 115cm Width = 142cm A really unusual item that's will suit almost all colour schemes. Wooden Antique Desk, Dressing Table // 19th Century // Good Condition

Small wooden 19th century desk / dressing table. Good condition. Recent valuation gave auction estimate of £. - - - - - - - - - - Dimensions (cm) 75h x 106w x 50d Unsure of material, however it has been suggested to me that it could be walnut. I believe it was originally a dressing table as it looks like a mirror may have once been attached. There are some struts supporting the legs on each side which look like they were added. Top surface is in two parts with a gap running through, unsure if this is original construction. Surface is in average condition with some scratches and blemishes. This small child's 19th Century chair is in excellent condition, it just needs a good polish. The seat is caned and there is a little break in the cane at the front, but otherwise intact. The chair stands 37" from the floor to the top of the back and the seat is 12" across.

Double-faced Janus - marble high-relief - early 19th century

Beautiful and refined high-relief depicting Janus, the purely Roman deity able to see past and future. In classical times, it was often used as an overdoor or at bridge entrances, with its faces watching in both directions like an entry and exit guard, that is it was used as an apotropaic symbol. Once its use was discontinued (perhaps due to a renovation) it was purchased by my father at an early 19th-century farmhouse in the Roman countryside. It is sculpted in high-quality Carrara marble, with some grains. Still with its original patina and minor wear from ageing, it shows clear signs of consummation to beard and hair on the left face, just above the forehead (probably due to water stagnation), and a small tear at bottom of the neck, where the artwork is complete with a beautiful inscription in Latin "IANUS". Objectively in a good state of preservation. On back, there are two holes allowing to fix it to a wall or an hanging marble slab through metal pins (one of which still partly exists).45 x 39 x 7 cm, 18 kg. Read More
