Convict Cichlids are a nice addition to any community tropical/freshwater fish tank. They do breed quite regularly but left in a communal tank few or none of the young will survive. Here we have removed the male and female from the tank a short while after the fry have hatched and saved around 50% of the young. The Convict Cichlids are amongst the best parents in the fish world as theyou feed, protect and swim along side the fry keeping them in line and grouped until they are old enough & big enough (as they are now) to fend for them selves. They have beautiful black/Grey stripes and look lovely in an aquarium, the male normally larger in size forms a lump on his forehead and the female has orangey/red scales around her tummy area.
